Профсоюз
Организация, представляющая экономические интересы трудящихся. Профсоюзные организации могут образовываться в рамках отдельной компании (такие профсоюзы характерны для Японии), могут представлять интересы людей одной профессии, работающих в разных отраслях промышленности (такие объединения типичны для Великобритании), могут объединять работников разных профессий внутри одной отрасли (такие объединения распространены в странах Европейского союза) или объединять широкий круг работников вне зависимости от их профессиональной принадлежности или отрасли промышленности, в которой они заняты (такие союзы, которые сформировались в результате слияния профессиональных и отраслевых союзов, шире всего представлены в США). Целью деятельности профсоюзных объединений является защита интересов его членов, что осуществляется путем переговоров с работодателями о заработной плате, условиях труда и т.д. Профсоюзы, несмотря на очевидное ослабление их активности в последние годы, все еще оказывают существенное влияние на ценообразование на рынке труда и, следовательно, на издержки производства в отдельных отраслях, а в более широком смысле - на уровень безработицы и инфляции. Коллективные переговоры
Переговоры об оплате труда, условиях работы и т.д. между представителями рабочих (обычно профсоюзными деятелями) и администрацией. Коллективные переговоры на уровне данного предприятия или компании касаются вопросов производительности труда, зарплаты, условий труда и т.д. Профсоюзы предлагают смягчить свои методы борьбы против сокращения рабочих мест взамен повышения зарплаты и улучшения условий труда, что в конечном счете позволяет компании более эффективно и гибко использовать трудовые ресурсы и повышать свою конкурентоспособность. Переговоры в масштабах всей отрасли могут иметь инфляционные последствия, когда профсоюзы в качестве аргументов используют методику сопоставления уровня зарплаты в разных отраслях (см. Comparability), требуя такого же повышения зарплаты, как и в тех отраслях, где высокие ставки оплаты труда оправданы значительным ростом производительности.
